EvEMarketHistoryDump, an EvE markets OHLC data exporter

14 November 2012 By Vaerah Vahrokha

Usage

Once EvEMarketHistoryDump has been installed, all you might have to do is:

  1. Start EvE and setup the market window as indicated at step 9 in the Installation chapter.
  2. Open the in game browser and go to this location or to a similar page on other EvE markets websites or just manually browse all the markets you indicated in the configuration file.
  3. Double click on the EvEMarketHistoryDump icon and wait for the text rolling to end.
  4. Import the resulting OHLC data files in your preferred finance or charting software.

Q: Does the software contain trojans, viruses etc. etc.?
A: Not that I know, if you are not sure please scan it with a good antivirus. Some might report a false “TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen” positive. Make sure to only download the software from this web site.

Q: Is the software free?
A: Totally. If you feel generous, please feel free to click on some banners and / or donate ISK to Vaerah Vahrokha.

Q: How does it work? Will you release the source code?
A: It reads the EvE cache and calculates OHLC values out of it. It is not incredibly precise on the daily bars but you want to read the market trends on the weekly and monthly anyway. No, I won’t release the source code.

Q: I get errors about missing DLLs, unable to find EvE installation path…
A: Please read the installation chapter.

Q: I get no errors but the imported data has some visibly wrong values. The in game chart or table view show other values for that day.
A: Your EvE client market cache data has been corrupted, it happens expecially when the server crashes. You’ll have to clear the cache (not the settings!) and browse the markets again. Please be warned that EvE only imports a maximum of one year worth of data, therefore if you kept multiple years and delete the cache, you will lose all those years worth of history.

Q: Some exported OHLC CSV files only show data up to 2 days ago!
A: There are a number of quirks related to the EvE market cache, they are not EvEMarketHistoryDump related. Some markets provide data up to 2 days ago, some up to 1 day ago and some up to today and that’s it. Moreover, some applications like the charting software I suggest in this tutorial draw or don’t draw bar depending on the time of the day you start them. In example, if you start Multicharts™ before your midnight, it will not show the last bar (assuming that market provided today’s bar). This is typical of those applications labelled as “working with End Of Day data”.

Q: Why my charting software won’t show today’s price bar?
A: Please refer to the answer right above.

Q: Is this software compatible with the EvE End User License Agreement (EULA)?
A: Yes. If you want to be totally sure to not breach the EULA please quit the EvE client before starting EvEMarketHistoryDump.

Q: May I include this software as part of another application?
A: As long as such application is free (no real life currency nor ISK asked) you may include EvEMarketHistoryDump as a component at your leisure. If it’s not free you will need a written agreement and authorization by me and probably by CCP (real life currency case).

Q: CCP issued a new patch and now EvEMarketHistoryDump does not work any more!
A: The EvE client caching system is hardly documented and subject to changes with no prior warning (nor patch notes). If I’ll still be playing EvE I will do the possible to release an updated EvEMarketHistoryDump as my time permits.

I am knew in everything Eve as well trade, but what I could see with my own eyes ( seeing patterns in sell order and buy order ) is well explained in your examples. I wan’t able to put my finger on it and now this is really clear. So thanks for this acute web site and still dissecting it into a fine and “scientific” approach of the trade.

Hey Vahrokh! Great site you have here, I’m learning a lot from it. I’m wondering where the EveMarketHistoryDump program has gone though, as I can’t find it anywhere on the site. The link in this article leads to the download page, but only the EVE Income Analyzer is there. Thanks!

There have been two issues that affected EvEMarketHistoryDump. The first was a the downloads software breaking, it made every download unavailable. The replacement downloader faced months of issues as well. And then CCP in their wisdom decided to change a lot of things in their cache files format so I had to modify EvEMarketHistoryDump to work with it again. Now it’s almost ready to be published again, stay tuned!
